May 2016 Wrap Up

Um yeah. It was't another lax month. I managed to only read one book, and that one was the last book I was reading for a book club I was in that I just didn't care for. Not that I didn't like the club, but they have a habit of only reading ONE kind of book that is exactly the one kind of book that I don't happen to like.

Anyway....I read 1 book this month:

Book #1: Remembering Joy by Jenni Moen

One mistake can shatter dreams and irrevocably shape the future. Alexis knows this first hand. Even though her memory of that day is hazy, she has spent ten years trying to put it behind her and focus on the future. Armed with the knowledge that her career will be her only legacy, Alexis works night and day to prove that she is more than just her last name. It’s not that she doesn’t have time for love – she doesn’t have the heart for it. After all, there’s no point in starting something that you can’t finish. Adam is dark and brooding and strangely charming. The film student is the perfect distraction from the mundane life she’s created for herself. Unfortunately, Adam’s memory isn’t hazy...not in the least. And, what she doesn’t remember, he can’t forget. - Goodreads.com

I gave this a 4/5 because it was good and I did sort of enjoy it, it's just not in my wheelhouse as the saying goes. Over all I'm not a huge fan of this type of book. I read it as the last hurrah for a book club I was in before leaving.

Adam struck me as the kind of guy that you just don't want to date. He does a lot of things to sabotage her and I'm actually surprised that Alexis NEVER once asked if he had heard her laptop ding, which it does, when she was in the shower or if he saw what happened to the papers or even how she knew her nickname. It just...you can't be that naive about something. It's impossible. She is way too trusting of a man she doesn't even know.

Alexis' father doesn't get out of this Scott-free either. I have no idea what put into his head that he had to keep her from knowing about it. Why? What would it have hurt to prevent her from remembering? She probably would have worked through it a lot quicker and just moved on with her life if she had found out slowly after the accident instead of all at once. I mean, that was the entire reason that Adam sought revenge. Because she acted like it never even happened! He didn't know that she had no idea.

I liked the way she wrote the book, but I more than likely won't be reading any more from her.
